Norway- Georgia

The Agreement on Cooperation in the Sphere of Cultural Heritage for the Years of 2009-2010 was signed on July 8, 2009 between the National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia and The Directorate of Cultural Heritage of Norway. The cooperation was focused towards the spheres as follows:
1. Promotion of Application of GIS System at Cultural Heritage of Georgia;

2. Further Development of Management System of Cultural Heritage of the City of Tbilisi;

3. Management of Archaeological Sites and of Monuments of World Cultural Heritage.

4. International Conference on “Cultural Heritage Based on Social-Economic Development” that is to be held in Tbilisi in 2010;

5. Support in Preparation of the Report for European Heritage Network (HEREIN) by the Georgian Counterpart;
The Agreement has been signed by General Director of the Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia Mr. Nikoloz Vacheishvili and Deputy General Director of the Directorate of Cultural Heritage of Norway Shur Helset.

In cooperation with the Council of Europe National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia is implementing the (pilot) Project in the conflict region (Shida Kartli) – "Post-Conflict Immediate Actions for the Social and Economic Revitalization of the Communities and the Cultural Environment in the Municipality of Gori - Georgia" PIAG

The Project comprises three sub-components as follows:

Guidelines for the repair and Reconstruction process of the Villages in the Conflict Zone Adjacent Area;

A feasibility Study for the rehabilitation of Nikozi Monastery and The Reference Development Plan for the Revitalisation of Nikozi Village;

Local and Regional Sustained Development Programme for Gori Municipality

Provided that the Project is successfully implemented, the respective document prepared by the Council of Europe (and as part of the project by Georgian experts) will be submitted to potential partners and possible donors for further international funding.
